|I Came, I Learned, I Went Home, I Slept
I went to a 1-day seminar the ABA was holding in Chicago on how to do neat things with the website they provide to ABA bookstores (like Pandemonium). So I had to get up at 4:45am, get driven to the airport by my wife (who really really loves me), fly to Chicago, get to the seminar (via shuttle), learn stuff at seminar all , get back to the airport in time to make my flight back to Boston.
I was picked up by my wife (who really really loves me) and taken home. I went to bed and went out like a light.
This was a first for me. I had some serious doubts as to whether the trip would be Worth It.
Would I do that again?. Probably.
a) I learned a lot at the seminar.
b) Chicago is only 2.25 hours away by plane, and the seminar was in a hotel right next to the airport.
c) The time zone shift really works in my favor. I lose an hour going west. If I was coming in from the west, I'd have to take a hotel room, which would likely tip the experience into the Not Worth It zone.
d) My wife is amazing!

|Speaking As Someone Who Went Through 10 Years Of Speech Therapy...
...The King's Speech
was absolutely fabulous. I wish Geoffrey Rush had been my speech therapist. Colin Firth's portrayal of The Man Who Would Be (However Unwillingly) George VI was simply brilliant. The mix of anger, frustration and desperation a stutterer feels when forced into public speaking was perfectly captured. I've felt that way so. many. times during my early life.
Very highly recommended!

| Birthday Dim Sum this Sunday Oct 3
I am celebrating my birthday this Sunday. I've never really done dim sum before, so I am interested in giving it a shot. I am a little intimidated by the concept, so I definitely would like a bunch of friends along for moral support!
The plan is to meet at China Pearl in Boston's Chinatown on Sunday, Oct 3 at 10 am. Please comment below if you're making it, so we know how large a table to ask for.
China Pearl is located at 9 Tyler St (between Beach St & Kneeland St) in Boston.
Phone for the restaurant is (617) 426-4338.
UPDATE: The meet time was changed to 10am Sunday to cut down on the wait time and also accommodate the needs of some of those interested in coming.

|Looking For Someone To Dog-Sit In Early-ish October
My sister is getting married in October and Karyn and I are looking for someone to mind our dog Kosh from Thursday (Oct. 7th) through to Sunday (Oct. 10th). Kosh is a 13-year-old Keeshond, who is very quiet, very friendly and thoroughly house-broken. I confess to not being a dog person myself, but Kosh is a Good Dog. He gets along with cats and other dogs just fine. We'd take him with us, but hotels don't serve his kind there.
We can bring Kosh to stay at your place, or (if we know you), we'd be happy to have you stay at our place over the weekend. Kosh is a very social animal and really needs someone to be with him overnight. Swinging by the house twice a day to feed and walk him would not be enough.
If you are interested, please email me at smoagendash(AT)gmail(dot)com, and we will discuss compensation

|Tyler & Karyn's Boston Wedding Shindig Happening on Oct. 24th!!!!
As many of you know, Karyn and I were wed last Sunday in NJ. The original plan was to have a small wedding in NJ for our respective families (most of whom who dwell in said state) and then have a huge shindig a week later up here in Boston before heading off on our honeymoon. So, we were able to get Part 1 of the Master Plan accomplished, but Part 2 got delayed until after our honeymoon.
So, onward to Part 2:
What: A Wedding Potluck Shindig to celebrate the union of Tyler Stewart & Karyn Pichnarczyk! Costumes are strongly encouraged (as Karyn and I will be waring our wedding duds), but not required. There will be dancing on the ground level, gaming on the lower level and much merriness all around!
Where: Cambridge Elks Lodge in Central Sq. (55 Bishop Richard Allen Dr, Cambridge MA
When: October 24th, 6pm-11pm
RSVP: Please email us at stewartshindig (at) gmail (dot) com to let us know you are coming. I want the party to be open to all, but need to have some idea how many will be coming. If it looks like we are going to max out the site's capacity, we may have to turn away anyone who didn't RSVP.
Alcohol? There will be a cash bar on the lower level, but no alcoholic beverages from outside will be allowed.
Wedding Gifts: In lieu of wedding gifts, please bring something yummy, offer to help run the Shindig or donate a little to defray costs. See below.
Looking to help? Please email us at stewartshindig (at) gmail (dot) com to let us know if and how you would like to help out:
- Contribute to the PotLuck. I love Potlucks! The quality and diversity of the food is wonderful! Please email us what you want to bring and we will post a list of what everyone is bringing online to avoid redundancy.
- Help organize the party: Our Best Man and Woman will be helping out, but with Karyn and I going away for two weeks, they will need help with the planning.
- Specific job functions we are looking for help with:
- Someone to provide/set up/pack up the sound system
- some DJs willing to each cover a two-hour block of the Shindig
- folks to help set up before the Shindig (moving tables, etc.)
- folks to help clean up after the party
- folks to help us run things during part of the Shindig
- a webmaster to set up and maintain a Shindig website
- someone to handle the gaming downstairs (ferry games over from Pandemonium, provide games for people to play, etc.)
Also, cash donations will not be refused! Feel free to make a donation to our PayPal account to defray the costs of renting the space. Any excess will go to Karyn & Tyler's Get A New Furnace Fund. Thanks!

|The New Dresden Files Book Is Out!
Just a quick reminder that TURN COAT is finally on sale today! The shipment came in 10 days ago, and we've had to sit on it till today. We have lots of copies (though they will likely go fast)!

|Day Four Of My Caffeine Fast
So in the middle of last week, my sweetie had to get up early for jury duty. My sweetie is many wonderful things, but is not a morning person like I am. So I got up even earlier to get tea and breakfast going, so she would be conscious when she drove to Woburn courthouse at the butt-crack of dawn.
I really over-caffeinated that day (Wednesday, I think it was). I drink a lot of Diet Pepsi. Four liters/day or so. Wednesday, I really overdid it. So much so that I couldn't sleep Wednesday night, and so felt like crap all Thursday to boot. So I said to myself: "Self, it's time to get off the Devil's Drink." And so I dialed back on Thursday and even more on Friday, then went without on Saturday. I pledged to go without for at least a month. If nothing else, I'd save a lot of money.
So far, so good. I am making a point of getting a lot of sleep, so as to avoid the temptation to indulge in "wake-up caffeine". Being a morning person likely helps a lot there. I am also drinking a lot of water and non-caffeinated (and mostly non-nutrasweeted) drink. But I was astonished by how productive I was yesterday. I suspect that my concentration suffered as a result of over-caffeination. Also, being able to sit for one to two hours and work on something without having to get up to go to the bathroom was surprisingly helpful. I hadn't realized what a procrastination tool that has been.
Of course, I will very likely come up with all new procrastination tools.
Like blogging, for intstance. Hmmmmmmm.......

|I've lost my avatar!
For some reason, I got saddled with a completely strange icon of two asian kids (maybe hackers?).
My normal icon is no longer available, and I can't seem to find the feature that allows me to crop other files into icons.
